Doubt thou the stars are fire,
Doubt that the sun doth move,
Doubt truth to be liar,
But never doubt I love.
Today is Valentines Day and for the last few days no-one is allowed to miss the fact; adverts, newspapers, shop shelves and the internet is full of red hearts, roses and cards. Now for us single girls that are left on dusty shelves and no matter how hard we try to ignore it, it is everywhere!
In my home this weekend are my Son and his Gf, and also my Sons mate is staying and also has his Gf this weekend, which highlights my singledom even more, not to mention making me feel old and past it!
So today has been spent with my animals, in and out the garden, enjoying the tranquillity of their simplicity.
However this year poor old Cupid has real competition in the shape of EL James`s book being made into a film, and having it`s first showing this Valentine`s weekend.
Fifty Shades of Grey is a 2011 erotic romance novel by British author E. L. James. It is the first installment in the Fifty Shades trilogy that traces the deepening relationship between a college graduate, Anastasia Steele, and a young business magnate, Christian Grey. It is notable for its explicitly erotic scenes featuring elements of sexual practices involving bondage/discipline,dominance/submission, and sadism/masochism (BDSM). Originally self-published as an ebook and a print-on-demand,publishing rights were acquired by Vintage Books in March 2012.
The second and third volumes, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, were published in 2012. Fifty Shades of Grey has topped best-seller lists around the world, including those of the United Kingdom and the United States. The series has sold over 100 million copies worldwide and been translated into 52 languages, and set a record in the United Kingdom as the fastest-selling paperback of all time. Critical reception of the book, however, has tended toward the negative, with the quality of its prose generally seen as poor. Universal Pictures and Focus Features produced a film adaptation, which was released on 13 February 2015.
It`s been like Marmite, some people love it, some hate it. I`ve read all three, and though the writing was poor and repetitive, the storyline had potential had it been written by a more accomplished writer. The basic love story is sweet between Christian and Ana, the sex really plays a small part in the bigger picture.
I personally have read naughtier books, and this one is tame, but to read just pure sex can get very dull very quickly and a storyline, for most women, adds to the erotic value.
The funny thing is that DIY stores are stocking up on cable ties, rope and anything they consider that any self respecting Christian Grey will want to use on their Anastasia`s, lol. Sadly though, the film itself has been given a tepid response where they say it hasn`t lived up to their expectations.
I have always, as far back as I can remember, seemed attracted to the fifty shades of f****d up type of man, just as I take in unwanted or injured animals. Do I think I can fix them? I don`t know, I think it was just their vulnerability that drew me to them. They`ve all been a similar type; messed up home lives, distant emotionally, yet vulnerable with it, free spirited, yet sometimes insecure to the point of controlling and abusive or commitment phobic.
